When I saw this pizza recipe floating around online I simply HAD to try it, it just sounded so incredibly bizarre and way cool. I really didn’t expect it to turn out, I was envisioning a soggy mess of gooey batter and melted cheese, or the putrid smell of burnt dough and an overnight soak for my poor, abused pan.
BUT – it worked! It worked! I couldn’t believe it!
Recipe:
1/2 cup self rising flour
1/2 cup regular flour
2/3 cup warm water
Pinch of Salt
1 tsp honey
1 tsp yeast
Sauce, Toppings, Shredded Cheese
I didn’t have self-rising flour in the house so I used bread flour instead. You simply pour all the dough ingredients in a large, non-stick deep skillet and mix until combined and a dough forms (it will be a very wet dough). Spread evenly with a spoon in your pan. Spread sauce on top of the dough, then add any toppings you want (I used onions and mushrooms) and then sprinkle on shredded cheese. Cover with lid (I actually couldn’t find the cover to my pan! I ended up using a cookie sheet to cover it, lol!) and turn the flame on to somewhere between low – medium heat. Cook 5 minutes. Slightly open a small part of the cover so that you create a “vent”. Continue to cook an additional 10 minutes. I then uncovered fully for one last minute so the cheese could get that bubbly browned look we all love, but I just added that, you don’t have to do it.. And…THAT’S IT!! IT’S READY!
I used a spatula to loosen and then it slid right out of my pan!
I then cut into slices…
Here’s a picture of the crust so you can see it’s really not burnt to a crisp!
Tali is pleased with the result! Time to eat 🙂
